Dr Hughes is a seasoned professional in the chemical development/CMC space.
After receiving his PhD from the University of Southampton, he left Britain to take a position with Neurorcrine Biosciences in San Diego as a bench process chemist and latterly kilo-lab manager. He then moved to Vertex pharmaceuticals inc. in San Diego and after establishing the kilo-lab facility there, Dr Hughes served in roles of increasing responsibility as a senior scientist overseeing the chemical development of countless new drug entities. Working on research hits, through preclinical tox and into the clinic he is well versed in all aspects of API manufacture from small non-GMP deliveries to GMP manufacture; route and chemistry development, purification, polymorphism, crystallization, batch records, vendor selection and management, raw material sourcing and so on and so forth. Dr Hughes in an inventor on a number of patents and is an author for a number of peer reviewed articles.
